Yongjae presented a full paper at DIS `25

Yongjae presented her full paper, “Driving with Algorithms Beyond Gig Work: Investigating How Algorithmic Management Affects Workers’ Practices in an On-Demand Ride-Pooling Service,” at the DIS 2025 conference, Funchal, Portugal.

This study investigated how algorithmic management affects worker practices in ODRP services. Through interviews with 16 drivers working in the ODRP service, the findings revealed their experiences and perceptions of algorithmic management in their work environment. Although participants acknowledged the general benefits and necessity of algorithmic management, they reported a lack of autonomy in following algorithmic work directions and expressed frustration with the dynamics among other stakeholders, which were influenced by algorithmic decision-making. Based on the findings, this study discussed design implications for supporting algorithmic workplaces.
